This post is dedicated to Gene Riemenschneider, a real estate agent with Home Point Real Estate in Brentwood, California. I have known Gene for several years through a real estate professional networking site and highly recommend him for anyone buying or selling a home in the East San Francisco Bay area. If he can’t help you in your special locale, I’m sure he can refer you to someone (almost) as good as he is.
Dedications are my way of trying to provide a little extra Google juice for people I have come to know and respect over the years.

I live fourteen miles from the Pacific Ocean. There are many play areas along San Diego’s 70 miles of ocean coastline but one of my favorites is Mission Bay Park, specifically Quivira Basin:

I have found that Quivira Basin is the best place to go either at sunrise or sunset to find the great blue herons, black-crowned night herons, great egrets, brown pelicans, the occasional seal and sea lion, and, of course, the ubiquitous California gull.
When I went by yesterday at sunset, there was a California gull — I named him Mister Sentry — sitting on the top of a truck at the entrance to the parking lot:

I had to park at the end of the parking lot from Mister Sentry, but he was still there when I walked out of the parking lot. Since he was being photogenic, I decided to see how close I could get to him. As I got closer to Mister Sentry, he started talking to me:

I have no idea what he was saying, but I can imagine….

It’s always great fun when seagulls seemingly talk to us. One can never tell whether they are talking TO us (or ABOUT us) humans.
Your gull has a much broader beak that most seagulls.
