When I was in college, my dorm rampmates, all 24 of us, would go visit services for different churches each Sunday. I learned a lot about love and tolerance, as well as hatred, during that first year at Texas A&M University. Nine years later I joined the Presbyterian Church so I could ring bells in the Bell Choir, sing in the Chancel Choir and the Men’s Ensemble, play violin with our church orchestra.

No. I sold my violin when I moved to San Diego in 1993 rather than bringing it with me from Texas. I didn’t think the salt and sand at the beaches would be good for it. lol
However, I am the official page turner for a couple of chamber music groups. Does that count? lol

Page turner…need one desperately! Playing a difficult Haydn piano duet filled to the brim with 16th and 32nd notes. Page turning becomes a real challenge.

People underestimate the value of a good page turner.
I patronize the arts here — symphony, community choruses, and whatever chamber music or free church concerts I can find.
I get so frustrated with our politicians and school boards because every time they need to cut the budget, it’s the arts that are the first to go.
My high school back in Texas no longer has music in their curriculum. Maybe that’s why today’s generation are into this rap and hip-hop crap. They didn’t learn music in school.
