It’s that time of year again!
Ice plants are bursting out in color everywhere!
I’m always on the lookout for new places to see the most beautiful displays of ice plant and recently found one.
It’s in Crest Canyon Park at the end of High Bluff Drive overlooking the Del Mar Fairgrounds and the San Dieguito River:
Here are a few pictures of the ice plant in Crest Canyon Park:

Lovely pictures, we have ice plants here in England, only they are completely different from yours. They are succulents and flower in the autumn. I always watch out for them at the end of the summer and see them with dread knowing what we have in front of us weather wise!

Our ice plants are succulents, too, and we do have some that flower in the autumn. In fact, these purple ones flower twice a year, once from February through April and then again in October-November. The Spring display, though, is the most spectacular.

I read ‘ice’ plant and imagined beautiful ice crystals looking like flowers, but these are pigface! Sorry, not being rude. That’s what we call these succulents in Australia. Because of the bushfire danger, I’ve planted scores of them in my garden – lots of blood reds, yellows and delicate purples. They are one of my favourite plants. 🙂

I knew pigface was a common name, but I just think they are too beautiful, not that a pig face isn’t beautiful in its own way………lol

Aaaah. lol Yes, it is a rather mean name for such a lovely plant. As for Miss Piggy,,,um, yes?

They mostly are from South Africa, but I’m surprised you don’t have them there since your climate and San Diego’s are very similar, and they love it here.

We probably do have them here but you know me – I am not particularly observant when it comes to plants haha!

If I had so much beautiful wildlife running around my property I might not notice the plants either!

I planted these several years ago in my front yard and wanted to plant more but, for the life of me, couldn’t remember their name or find them anywhere on the web. (Try matching the flower name by looking through flower pictures.) Finally saw some at Lowes and I snatched all they had! Ice plants!! Can’t wait to see them come alive soon!

Ah, yes, matching flower names by looking through flower pictures. I’ve spent my whole life doing that. You should see the gardening section of my home library. If I’ve seen the plant here in San Diego, there is a post-it note sticking on the page. Unfortunately, with our climate, billions and billions and billions of plants grow here……..lol
