Swingset at the beach

Whenever I do a home inspection in an enclave reserved for the rich and extraordinarily wealthy, I come away amazed at the children.

They are the most well-behaved I’ve ever seen.

Of course, maybe I would have been a well-behaved child, too, if I had a DVD player, an iPad, an iPod, iTunes, iPhone, iHeadphones, iShoes, iHat, iUnderwear…..

All I had was a dog (Bosco) and an alley to play in…… loved to built forts out of rocks and sticks and then bomb them with my stick airplanes and their rock bombs.

Oh, I forgot.

I also had a swingset but my backyard did not look anything like this one:

If my back yard and swingset had looked like that, I would still be swinging away forty years later!

Scenes from the beach

Two of my favorite beaches in San Diego are Imperial Beach and Ocean Beach. Here are some scenes:

Ocean public art indicates we’re getting close!

As do street utility boxes

Even the sidewalks are beachy.

Houses near the beach.

Surfing is a big pastime.

We’re there!

Fishing is allowed from the pier since it’s a “fishing pier.”
Not from in the waters or on the beach, though.

My wise old grandmother taught me to share,
so I passed by this drinking fountain:

The pier’s restaurant is a relaxed place to eat with the best view.

Oceanside Pier — San Diego County’s second-longest pier

If you read my most recent post (Ocean Beach Fishing Pier — The longest, second longest, and fourth longest pier on the West Coast), you might remember that we have five piers in San Diego County.

The Ocean Beach Fishing Pier is the longest at 1,971 feet. Not too far behind it, at 1,942 feet (or 1,954 feet, depending on who you believe), is the Oceanside Pier. It was built in 1888 at what is now Wisconsin Avenue but was destroyed by storms in the winter of 1890. It was rebuilt in 1893 in its current location at Pier View Way. However, the current pier, the sixth Oceanside Pier, was built in 1987. Mother and Father Nature keep destroying in with their winter storms.

Since I recently was in Oceanside doing a home inspection nearby, I took some time out afterwards to explore the Oceanside beach and pier.

I came home with some pictures that I really like, and since my wise old grandmother taught me to share, I’m sharing!

I always find beach-front homes fascinating, to see how individual people express their beach lifestyle.

The architecture includes small beach cottages built long ago to large two-story homes with interesting architecture.

I stayed long enough to get some sunset pictures.

A visit to La Jolla, California

If you come to visit San Diego, be sure to put a visit to La Jolla on your list of things to do. La Jolla is about 25 miles north of downtown San Diego:

P.S. If you fly into San Diego, sit on the left side of the airplane. The view of downtown San Diego as you are landing is magnificent.
