Del Mar Dog Beach — Not a lookalike beach

Many of San Diego’s beaches don’t look like what you think of when you visualize a beach. Most people think of the long, flat expanses of sand and water…. Florida beaches come immediately to mind.

Yesterday’s Del Mar Surf Dog Surf-a-thon was held at Del Mar’s Dog Beach. (Many of our oceanside cities have special dog beaches where the dogs can run wild without leashes and play in the water. Surprisingly, there are few, if any, incidences of big dogs chowing down on little dogs…. or humans….)

Following are some pictures of Del Mar’s Dog Beach. They give you a good indication of what many of the beaches in the northern half of the county look like.

Today’s Out & About expedition was to the Seventh Annual Del Mar Surf Dog Surf-a-thon. What a blast! I have never seen so many dogs in all my life, even at a dog show. On second thought, I guess this was a dog show, kind of……….

“This is my home,” said the doggy to the invader

A few days ago at my home inspection a fencing cat was putting on a show for us. Today a different fine, furry, four-legged friend simply watched me as I invaded her home:

The Sellers told me that she rarely gets tied up, obvious by the look on her face. She made not a peep during the whole 2½-hour ordeal. Just solemnly watched me, wondering when I would leave so she could get back to her home.
