Welcome to San Diego County Homes!
This new category for my WordPress blog will feature Photographic Art of the magnificent homes found throughout San Diego County. Most of these magnificent homes are mountain, hillside, and beachfront homes. Areas like La Jolla, Coronado, Del Mar, Encinitas, Poway, Mission Hills, Mount Helix, and Kensington are just a few of the areas that will be represented.
One of the most magnificent properties that is readily accessible and viewable to the general public, and easy to get to, is this La Jolla Beach Mansion:
That beach mansion is located at 1900 Spindrift Drive in La Jolla, about two hundred feet north of The Marine Room, one of San Diego County’s best restaurants.
Beaches are public property in California, and with The Marine Room close by, as well as the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, there are always quite a few people staring at the mansion.
In fact, for this Photographic Art rendition of the home, I had to remove people from the beach, as well as portions of the home at the right of this one, and I added a more beautiful sky since it was gray and overcast when I was there.
More about the property:
-
Built in 1929
-
9,309 square feet with 6 bedrooms, 9 full bathrooms, and 2 half-baths.
-
Last sold in November 2009 for $18,150,000 in an all-cash sale.
-
Interior walls are custom fabrics and wallpapers; floors are parquet, marble, and tile; and ceilings are solid beams and planks.
-
Boat house with beach access.
-
Heated swimming pool with fountain.
-
Built-in fish tank in family room.
This original Photographic Art is for sale at Fine Art America in the La Jolla California gallery.

Love it, if only you could get access to the inside as well 😀

If! Even if it were for sale, mansions like this one don’t have open houses, and in order to go see it, one has to be fully prequalified to buy it.

Wow!!! I’d hate to have to clean that place.

Wow, it’s beautiful and I’m sure is gorgeous inside, but I couldn’t live in something so huge…I prefer family being closer together and cozy! 🙂 Great photo, though, and La Jolla is a beautiful place, as well!

I lived in a 4,000-SF house from 1999-2001. Jim and I found it about 2,500 square feet too big for two people!

I can see why…even that seems big. The largest we’ve lived in was about 2500 square feet and that was actually pretty nice. But now, we’re living in a “cottage” of about 1200 sq. ft., cozy, and we could add on, but decided against the debt. What’s funny is sometimes even it seems too big when I’m looking for my husband or kids (now young adults)! 🙂

Gorgeous, but I would not want to clean it. Though I suppose anyone who can afford a house like that can also afford to hire someone to clean it for them. It would make an awesome B&B.

Wow, love that curved staircase leading down to the…boat house? guest house?

It’s just a changing “shack” for cleaning up after coming in from the salt water.

I could live in a “shack” like that by the water!

Yep. I keep meaning to go by to see if they need hired help to, uh, keep the shack clean. I’ll work 24/7………LOL

Thank God for the fish tank. That must have been the selling point. 🙂

I thought so, too, which is why I put the fish tank last. Always save the best for last, my wise old grandmother used to say………….LOL

This is my great grandfathers house. Gordon Gray. He was a lawyer in La Jolla. When he built the house, it was not this ornate. But still, so beautiful. I have many pictures of my mother and grandmother playing by the beach in the area down by the boathouse. I have the original renderings and it was very different.

Sure! I check on this house from time to time as I have considered writing to the current owner to see if we could tour. Here is the interesting information on him-
Owner: Darwin Deason, Billionaire, 78 years old
5th Wife: Katerina Panos, 51 years old, graduate of La Jolla High School
